ApexSQL News Product announcements, promotions, discussions, and other ApexSQL Tools news ApexSQL Major Upgrades - FAQ We've released a lot of Major Upgrades lately (which is a good thing) but there will be questions and issues related to this that I wanted to go over. How do I verify if I’m under Maintenance and eligible for FREE upgrades? • Contact sales@apexsql.com and include company information. • Visit our Upgrade center and verify the Maintenance status of any activation key What if I'm not under Maintenance? Can I still upgrade? If you aren’t under maintenance you can still purchase upgrades with a 30% existing customer discount. Contact sales@apexsql.com for a quote. What if I don't want to Upgrade? If you don’t want to upgrade, please turn off the auto-updater which will continue to prompt you to upgrade to new versions. You can always turn it back on at a later date. Here's a KB article on how to turn the auto-updater OFF. If you have already upgraded, revert to the version you are entitled to. How do I revert to old version? You can simply uninstall the new version and download and install the old version. Click here for a KB on how to downgrade to an older version. I purchased software when ApexSQL still offered "Free Upgrades" - am I grandfathered? Yes - your key should work on all new versions. If it doesn't pls contact sales@apexsql.com The auto-updater told me to update and now my key doesn't work! Older versions of the software don't contain our latest and greatest auto-updater (see below) which gives an explicit warning on whether a version is a MAJOR (not free) upgrade or not. In other situations people are seeing the warning during the prompt for auto-update but not realizing that MAJOR new versions aren't free. In such cases you would need to purchase the Upgrade or Downgrade. We apologize for the inconvenience although in the latter case I'm not sure how to make this more explicit - we'll have to think on this a bit if it keeps happening. I wrote an article further explaining this here.  I purchased the software 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 1 year etc prior to the release - don't I get a free upgrade? We've worked hard to explain what purchasing Maintenance is important including posting articles on our purchase page, shop cart and even including reminders post sales. But some people still make the decision to not purchase Maintenance. In such cases we offer a 30% discount off the new version for being an existing customer. Please contact sales@apexsql.com if you are interested in upgrading. We hope people understand that software development is an expensive business and Maintenance contracts allow us to continue to improve our technology and deliver major value to our customers. We've released a preview of the functional spec as a PDF http://www.apexsql.com/datasheets/New_Audit.pdf Labels: ApexSQL Audit ...No shirt, No Key, No Problem For years I've gotten requests from customers to Audit tables without PK in ApexSQL Audit. We've added some limited support for this in the past but with the new version we're going to roll out a neat new feature that addresses this head on!  You will see in the application a new, dockable panel in the same panel group as Fields. This panel shows the current system selected key for the table picked in preference of PK, UK and Identity field. If none of these exist there will be no key ... which is no problem  The next screen shot shows the custom key dialog that allows you to pick from existing PK, UK and/or Identity field ... or create your own Custom key using any combination of existing fields. The graphical headers and tooltips help to show you the existing keys in the table to visually select from the various key candiates. We plan to roll out the New ApexSQL Audit this week with a few more interesting features and we have an aggressive feature release schedule planned for the coming weeks and months. An entirely redesigned version of Apex SQL Audit 2005 will be released this month - at which point we'll update the page again in a few weeks. There are going to be a lot of great UI features to make using the interface a lot easier. We'll introduce product management and a complimentary wizard. We are also working on some things to do automatic audit profile change detection and update that has been on my plate for about 3 years.
