ApexSQL News Product announcements, promotions, discussions, and other ApexSQL Tools news What happened to the old ApexSQL Source Control add-in? Effective November 25, 2009, the ApexSQL Source Control add-in is no longer an ApexSQL product add-in. All extended source control features that the add-in provides for ApexSQL Edit, ApexSQL Diff, and ApexSQL Script are now fully absorbed by each of the applicable apps. This means that seamless integration with Visual Source Safe, Team Foundation Server, and SourceGear Vault is now FREE on each of these apps and no longer requires an activation key. All you need to do is download and install the latest versions of these products. Is the ApexSQL Source Control add-in totally gone? I still see it marked as "coming soon" on your website. ApexSQL Source Control add-in will be eventually released as an SSMS add-in like ApexSQL Refactor and ApexSQL Debug. What if I already purchased the Apexsql Source Control add-in? We can credit you with a free key to the NEW ApexSQL Source Control SSMS add-in or another software for equivalent price. How do I get the benefit of the new addin in ApexSQL Diff, ApexSQL Edit, and ApexSQL Script?Simply download the new version – the functionality is now part of the applications itself with no need for additional addins. Where can I download the new free addin? There's no need to download anything. Just download the applications and you immediately have access to the features that used to require ApexSQL Source Control. You can now take advantage of each of these products' features without purchasing an activation key. We also have fully integrated the ApexSQL Source Control add-in features to ApexSQL Edit, ApexSQL Diff, and ApexSQL Script. With this integration, you no longer need to activate the add-in separately to use the additional source control features it provides--these features have been completely absorbed by all applicable apps. Change in Evaluation Period Starting November 25, 2009, the evaluation period for ApexSQL products has been changed to 14 days. This change is now implemented in ApexSQL Diff, ApexSQL Script, and ApexSQL Data Diff. This change will eventually be applied to all products except ApexSQL Edit. ApexSQL Edit's evaluation period has been extended to 90 days. Use the following link for downloading. On this version, all extended source control features that the ApexSQL Source Control add-in used to provide for ApexSQL Diff (like comparing to labels, more seamless integration with Visual Source Safe, Team Foundation Server, and SourceGear Vault, etc) are now fully integrated in ApexSQL Diff--no need for the add-in. Labels: ApexSQL Diff ...ApexSQL Major Upgrades - FAQ We've released a lot of Major Upgrades lately (which is a good thing) but there will be questions and issues related to this that I wanted to go over. How do I verify if I’m under Maintenance and eligible for FREE upgrades? • Contact sales@apexsql.com and include company information. • Visit our Upgrade center and verify the Maintenance status of any activation key What if I'm not under Maintenance? Can I still upgrade? If you aren’t under maintenance you can still purchase upgrades with a 30% existing customer discount. Contact sales@apexsql.com for a quote. What if I don't want to Upgrade? If you don’t want to upgrade, please turn off the auto-updater which will continue to prompt you to upgrade to new versions. You can always turn it back on at a later date. Here's a KB article on how to turn the auto-updater OFF. If you have already upgraded, revert to the version you are entitled to. How do I revert to old version? You can simply uninstall the new version and download and install the old version. Click here for a KB on how to downgrade to an older version. I purchased software when ApexSQL still offered "Free Upgrades" - am I grandfathered? Yes - your key should work on all new versions. If it doesn't pls contact sales@apexsql.com The auto-updater told me to update and now my key doesn't work! Older versions of the software don't contain our latest and greatest auto-updater (see below) which gives an explicit warning on whether a version is a MAJOR (not free) upgrade or not. In other situations people are seeing the warning during the prompt for auto-update but not realizing that MAJOR new versions aren't free. In such cases you would need to purchase the Upgrade or Downgrade. We apologize for the inconvenience although in the latter case I'm not sure how to make this more explicit - we'll have to think on this a bit if it keeps happening. I wrote an article further explaining this here.  I purchased the software 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 1 year etc prior to the release - don't I get a free upgrade? We've worked hard to explain what purchasing Maintenance is important including posting articles on our purchase page, shop cart and even including reminders post sales. But some people still make the decision to not purchase Maintenance. In such cases we offer a 30% discount off the new version for being an existing customer. Please contact sales@apexsql.com if you are interested in upgrading. We hope people understand that software development is an expensive business and Maintenance contracts allow us to continue to improve our technology and deliver major value to our customers. ApexSQL Diff 2008 With the release of ApexSQL Diff 2008, the product will split into two separate products, one for structure and one for data compare. This change was made for a few reasons but the biggest was the product has grown so large and that the modules are so different it will be easier to plan development and release of the two modules separately.
