Announcing performance monitoring for Azure SQL Database and Amazon Web Service RDS for SQL Server

Starting with the latest 2018 R5 release of ApexSQL Monitor, ApexSQL is now offering support for performance monitoring for Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Database Managed Instance and Amazon Web Service RDS for SQL Server. While end users do not have control over the cloud hardware and operating system, ApexSQL Monitor allows database Administrators to gain the control over database performance.

To make it even more comfortable for our users, we decided to take one step further to make adding the Azure SQL Database or Amazon Web Service RDS for SQL Server, even more, user-friendly. It is not needed for the user to know what type of instance he has to add for monitoring as ApexSQL Monitor will do the job on the user behalf.

To get started, open the ApexSQL monitor and in the Add instance dialog enter the name of the instance in the Server field and fill the required credentials. ApexSQL Monitor will detect the type of the instance, and in case of Azure SQL Database it will offer the user to chose which databases to add for monitoring from the list of available databases. Therefore, the user is not forced to know and to explicitly select in beforehand what type of instance should be added

For Azure SQL Database Managed Instance and Amazon Web Service RDS for SQL Server, each instance consumes one ApexSQL Monitor license.

On the other hand, Azure SQL Server Database support comes as a bonus for our users as each ApexSQL Monitor license purchased comes with one free Azure SQL Database instance. Furthermore, the free Azure SQL Database license considers the ability to add all the databases hosted by the single Azure SQL Database server, not just the single database.

The support for Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Database Managed Instance and Amazon Web Service RDS for SQL Server consider the ability to monitor SQL Server and database counters as well as monitoring the wait statistic, query waits, query performance, index usage, support for alerting, custom metric, etc.

Support for Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Database Managed Instance and Amazon Web Service RDS for SQL Server will be improved and enhanced in the near future. Please see our product roadmap for more information
