We are glad to announce that ApexSQL Source Control (formerly known as ApexSQL Version) 2014 R2 beta was released today. You can download it from the following link.
We worked hard for last two months, following our roadmap, and managed to implement all the necessary building blocks for the support of the dedicated database development model. We are now releasing it into the ‘wild’ and are eager to hear feedback as we are aware that is the only way to create a tool that fits real-life needs. We are committed to creating THE database versioning tool so please do not hesitate to send any feedback, criticism and ideas directly to support@apexsql.com. We would like to thank to all the people from the community who already helped with their feature request and thoughts about the design.
Some of the features implemented in this beta release, for the dedicated model:
- Support for Git, Subversion, Mercurial
- Support for HTTP, HTTPS and SSH connection
- Complete integration with SSMS
- Real – time monitoring of changes made to database objects
- Marking of changed objects in Object Explorer
- Comparison algorithm that monitors nature of the changes made between database and source control and offers default actions based on them
- View differences between individual object scripts
- Conflict resolution using third party tools: KDiff, BeyondCompare and examDiff Pro
- Atomic commits to source control
- Generating dependency aware, atomic scripts for synchronizing database with source control
- Undo changes made to the database
- Get by Version functionality
- Create Label functionality
- Get by Label functionality
- Easier and faster database mapping process
- Menu customization based on chosen database model
We have also improved performance and quality of our support for Subversion for the Shared model by completely rewriting it against the newest SharpSubversion library. Keep in mind that we will completely focus on polishing the Shared model once we complete the work on Dedicated, as planned by our roadmap.
Features that we plan to include in the final ApexSQL Source Control 2014 R2 release which is scheduled for the end of October are:
- Support for the dedicated model for TFS and Visual Studio Online
- Support for shared model for Perforce
- Work offline (ability to commit to local repository and sync with remote once the connection is established)
- New differences viewer
- Minor feature improvements and bug fixes
Please keep in mind that this is a beta release and that it should not be used against mission critical databases.
