The new release of ApexSQL Refactor, a free SQL Server formatting formatter and refactoring tool, is announced for Q1 2013 and will introduce, among other things, a useful and practical new feature – Batch formatting
This new Batch formatting feature takes formatting to a new level, making it efficient for large number of objects by allowing you to format many objects at once
The Batch formatting feature allows you to automate commonly performed formatting and runs an action on a single or multiple SQL script files and folders. When batch formatting SQL script files, you can save the formatted versions of these files either using new file names or save the changes to the original files themselves
To do so, run the Format SQL scripts command in the ApexSQL Refactor main menu
The Format SQL files dialog allows you to select the SQL script files, or a single folder, which contains the SQL script files to be batch formatted
Multiple folders or even a combination of folders and individual SQL script files can be batch formatted simultaneously
If multiple users with different formatting style requirements are using the same SQL scripts, simply select one of the pre-defined batch formatting profiles from the Options drop-down menu
Overwrite old .sql files and Create new .sql files options allow the user to modify the original script files, or create new ones while leaving the originals intact
In environments with multiple users, combining the personal formatting profile with The name format for the new .sql files option, will make the SQL scripts easier to be identified by different users
Batch formatting feature introduced in ApexSQL Refactor is practical and free solution for managing multiple SQL scripts or folders even in multiple user environment with different formatting styles
