Bravo team update: ApexSQL Doc and ApexSQL Clean

What have you been working on?

We have released ApexSQL Doc 2016 R2 maintenance version

We are currently working on ApexSQL Clean 2016 major version – a tool that analyzes SQL Server database objects’ dependencies, the impact of potential deletions on your SQL database, determines objects’ interrelationships within the database, between external databases, scripts and even applications.

What is the ETA to production?

ApexSQL Doc 2016 R2 is released. See the latest release notes here

ApexSQL Clean 2016 R1 will be released to production by May 15th

What is included in new releases?

In ApexSQL Doc 2016 R2 we introduced new features:

  1. Support for SQL Server 2016 RC3 databases users are now able to document databases with compatibility level 130

  2. Support for Azure SQL Database V12 – new objects and properties are now fully supported. For the complete list of supported objects, please see release notes

  3. SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) documentation – users are now able to document SSAS Cubes (Multidimensional models) and Tabular databases

SSAS database documentation can also be easily scheduled through the CLI for unattended execution. For more information about setting up an automated process which will generate SSAS database documentation, please see this link

Data model diagrams – this feature graphically displays database tables and their relationships using standard Entity-relationship notation

We also fixed 9 bugs for this release

What is planned in future releases and what are ETAs?

ApexSQL Clean 2016 R1 – ETA is May 15th 2016:

  • Support for SQL Server 2016 RC3 databases

  • SQL Server 2016 full support
  • SSRS report documentation
  • Document SSIS packages from SSISDB catalog
  • SSIS package details

    • Project parameters
    • Log entry information
    • Extended properties
    • Configuration settings
  • SSIS source and destination mapping
  • Dependencies between SSIS packages and referenced database objects
